Borrowing yet again from Google maps, we now have a satellite view of the area around our project apartment. In this image you can see the first and second floor windows previously described, including the one taller window opening which will hopefully become a Juliette balcony feature in a future (first floor) bedroom.
The area labeled as “annex” is about the size of a small garden shed and is basically a landing area for the stairs that go from the mezzanine level up to the terrace (terrazza). We will use the annex to store chairs etal when we’re away from town. We also hope to install a small sink and mini-fridge just to save running up and down stairs to access snacks and cocktails.
The blurry area to the right of the annex and behind the terrace is a skylight that allows loads of natural light to flood through the mezzanine and down to the second floor. We plan to install a glass-paneled door between the annex and the terrace to let in even more light.
As for the terrace itself, the very first order of business (besides getting stairs in place) will be to install a railing system. The railing system needs to provide safety without impacting the view and we’re toying with the idea of a grape vine or wine motif to honor our beloved Montepulciano. No doubt there will be some fairy lights installed for evening ambiance.
Now, sit back and enjoy the view…
