Not long after we completed the majority of the renovations of our first apartment in Montepulciano, Kriste and I came up with the brilliant idea of buying a second apartment in town. The idea was to have two additional ensuite bedrooms for times when we have extra family visiting town and to also take advantage of the fairly steady nightly-income market in Montepulciano. It was never about becoming wealthy landowners in Italy, but rather to earn a few euros here and there to somewhat offset the carrying costs of two apartments.
When we first saw the apartment that is to be the main subject of this blog, back in September of 2023, we were immediately struck by its potential. In all honesty, the apartment itself was (and currently is) a bit of a disaster, but it immediately spoke to us. And when we saw the view from the rooftop terrace, we pretty much lost our minds and decided to make an offer. Unfortunately, even after months of back-and-forth with the seller, we just couldn’t quite agree to terms and had to let it go.
We did find another apartment in town that satisfied our requirements (for the most part) and successfully closed its purchase and completed some fairly major renovations. We’ll post about that separately…
Fast forward to early 2026 and Kriste and I noticed that the apartment of our dreams was back on the market, having received some import legal and structural updates, and fully stripped back to the bare walls. We have a preliminary contract and expect to close while we are in Montepulciano for the Bravio in August (2026).
