Three years and one unsuccessful purchase attempt later, followed more recently by months of planning, paperwork, a few deep breaths, and a 2:30am Phoenix-time virtual closing, we’re thrilled to share that we’ve officially completed the purchase of our terrace apartment in Italy. It still feels a bit surreal to say that out loud. The purchase is complete, the keys are in our hands (sort of), and the project we’ve been imagining for so long is suddenly on the horizon.
The apartment itself is exactly the kind of place we hoped to find after spending time in Italy and refining our preferences for ancient city life — full of character, history, a killer view, and that unmistakable Italian charm that makes you feel like life moves just a little slower and a little sweeter. It has great bones, beautiful light, and the kind of quirks that remind you it has lived a long life before we ever stepped inside.
This little place—full of charm and endless potential—is now ours. Now the real fun begins!
We’re diving headfirst into a complete restoration, the kind that brings old bones back to life while honoring the history woven into every wall. There will be dust, decisions, discoveries, and probably a few surprises along the way, but that’s exactly what makes this journey so exciting. There will be decisions about tiles and room layouts, new plumbing and electrical work, unexpected discoveries, and probably a few moments where we wonder what we’ve gotten ourselves into. But that’s the magic of a project like this. Every challenge becomes part of the story.
We can’t wait to transform this space into something beautiful, functional, and deeply personal. And of course, we’ll be sharing updates as the project unfolds. Over the coming months and years, we’ll be documenting the transformation: the design plans, the craftsmanship, the progress, and the inevitable surprises. We want to capture not just the finished product, but the journey—the messy, exciting, creative process of bringing a place back to life.
For now, we’re simply savoring this moment. The purchase is complete, the vision is clear, and the project we’ve been waiting for is finally underway.
